Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage is a therapeutic technique in which the therapist uses gentle hand pressure to perform specific movements that release lymph.

It is a special technique focused on the lymphatic system. The movements are performed on the skin and subcutaneous tissue, have a circular and spiral character, a slow rhythm, and have a beneficial effect on the superficial lymphatic system and lymph nodes. Manual lymphatic drainage eases lymphatic swelling, pain and fatigue in the limbs, cellulite, and helps detoxify the body.

Manual lymphatic drainage is not suitable for certain adverse health conditions. It is not suitable for clients with cancer, heart, liver or kidney disease, as well as acute bacterial and viral illnesses, acute venous disease, or untreated hypertension.

Also important before surgery

Lymphatic massage and physiotherapy are also beneficial before surgery. Mobility improves, swelling is reduced, the wound subsequently heals more easily, and the client is able to rehabilitate faster after surgery and return to everyday activities. Lower pain levels contribute to a more positive approach to treatment and post-operative care. Manual lymphatic drainage before and after surgery reduces the risk of phlebitis, thrombosis and embolism.
