Antigravity Relaxation – AGR

Antigravity relaxation – AGR

The essence of the antigravity relaxation method is using the earth's gravity as a natural resistance. Its goal is to achieve subsequent relaxation and simultaneously release painful muscle spasms. It helps ease or remove musculoskeletal pain.

If the patient's condition allows, the physiotherapist prepares the patient for home exercise through instruction. Post-isometric relaxation has no contraindications.

The AGR method is based on post-isometric relaxation and follows the same principles. The therapist's resistance is replaced by the earth's gravity.

PIR and AGR are often used for problems and pain in the cervical spine, which can present in the patient as:

  • stiff neck muscles
  • headaches and migraines

Is post-isometric or antigravity relaxation ideal for your condition?

At physio&care, our patients undergo a thorough examination with a physiotherapist before any treatment technique is applied. The initial assessment is key to identifying the true cause of the pain and planning an individual treatment plan for your condition. That's why whether PIR or AGR is applied will depend on the result of your current condition.
