Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization – DNS Therapy

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization - DNS therapy

At our physiotherapy centre in Bratislava we use the DNS exercise concept — an approach based on developmental kinesiology. In practice this means that DNS exercises use positions and movements that we can observe in children during the first 2 years of life. Dynamic neuromuscular stabilization is intended for anyone with musculoskeletal difficulties, children from age 5, and elite athletes.

At our medical centre in Bratislava we also combine DNS exercises with electrical muscle stimulation, which allows us to achieve very good results in a short time.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization – DNS exercises

This is a diagnostic and therapeutic procedure based on fundamental physiological movement patterns. During human development these can become impaired or gradually degenerate. DNS therapy uses knowledge of the key principles of human motor behaviour, which are an expression of the controlling function of the central nervous system (CNS). The therapist uses the musculoskeletal system as an information interface, from which they can diagnose disorders and at the same time therapeutically influence these changes.

DNS therapy uses a technique of stretching the shoulders to the side, used for example to remove pain in the area of the ribs or chest. Another method is diaphragm activation with breathing into the back. This is a technique used to remove pain in the lower thoracic spine and lower ribs. The method is also applied in treating hip pain, acute blockages, and the like.

We correct altered or unsuitable movement patterns through correct physiotherapist diagnostics and exercise in positions that the patient goes through during physiological psychomotor development, which express the maturity of their CNS.

DNS therapy is suitable

Physiotherapy at our rehabilitation centre also uses this therapeutic procedure and DNS exercises to diagnose musculoskeletal disorders and subsequently has a therapeutic effect on:

  • pain in the lower thoracic spine
  • rib pain
  • hip joint pain
  • acute blockages, etc.
